Taiwanese authorities announced on August 8 that they will soon lift the ban on imports of food products from Fukushima and five other prefectures following the 2011 TEPCO Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant accident. With some exceptions, imports will be allowed to resume for the first time in about 11 years. Taiwan hopes to give momentum to its entry into the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), to which it applied for membership last September, by resolving a long-standing dispute with Japan.
