In a written interview with the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, French Foreign Minister Le Drian stated that France is "ready to act" toward stability in the Taiwan Strait. With China in mind, he suggested that the French military would exercise restraint by navigating the waters surrounding the Taiwan Strait. He also expressed a positive attitude toward the conclusion of a trade agreement between the European Union and Taiwan.
