The following are remarks made by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on March 23 concerning economic sanctions against Russia for unilaterally recognizing the independence of some regions in eastern Ukraine.
On February 22, Russia proceeded with a series of measures, including ratification of treaties with the two so-called republics that are part of Ukraine and a decision by the Federal Assembly on the use of its armed forces outside its territory. We again strongly condemn these actions, which clearly violate Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law. We urge Russia to return to efforts to resolve the situation through the diplomatic process. ...
