Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusiol told reporters after a cabinet meeting on the evening of August 28 that Turkey will warn all countries, whether they are littoral states in the Black Sea or not, that it will not allow warships to pass through the strait. The state-run Anatolia news agency reported.
Chavusiol had announced the previous day that Turkey would recognize the invasion by Russia as war. This would give Turkey some control over the straits linking the Black Sea, the Sea of Marmara, and the Aegean Sea.
