Former U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo met with President Tsai Ing-wen in Taipei on March 3. She visited Taiwan at the invitation of the Taiwanese side. Tsai said at the meeting that "Pompeo made great contributions to Taiwan-U.S. relations during his tenure [as Secretary of State in the former U.S. administration of President Trump]. The two sides agreed on countering China and confirmed the need to further strengthen the U.S.-Taiwan relationship.
