BBC suspends news-gathering activities in Russia; CNN also concerned about information control

On April 4, the BBC announced that it had temporarily suspended all journalists' reporting activities in Russia. On the same day, the Russian parliament passed a bill to strengthen wartime control of intelligence by amending the law to impose criminal penalties for spreading false information about the country's military operations. President Putin signed the bill into law, and it is expected to go into effect within the next day or two.
