The world's major aircraft leasing companies are rushing to withdraw from the Russian business. Aircap, the world's largest airline based in Ireland, has decided to withdraw from the market, and SMBC Aviation Capital, the second largest overseas provider of aircraft leasing to Russia, is also expected to cancel its contract with a Russian airline. The move follows the European Union's request to terminate contracts with Russia by the end of March as part of its sanctions against the country. Half of Russia's 500 commercial aircraft are expected to be out of service, making the movement of people and economic activities in Russia even more difficult.
