Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. delivered the new submarine "TAIGEI" to the Ministry of Defense at its Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works (Kobe City) on September 9. The construction cost was approximately 80 billion yen. The first of the "TAIGEI" type submarines, the most advanced submarines operated by the Self-Defense Forces, the TAIGEI will complete the government's goal of a 22-ship submarine fleet (excluding training vessels).
